Frozen Embryos

Molly Everette Gibson, a baby conceived via IVF and frozen as an embryo 27 years ago, was born a few weeks ago to Tina Gibson, just 28 years old. Tina and her husband Benjamin, 36, who has cystic fibrosis which can cause infertility, decided to adopt Molly after trying naturally for their own child for five years. What people are now asking is, what is the “shelf life” of a frozen embryo and are they safe to use after such a long period of time? Dr. Shannon DeVore shares with us the science behind egg and embryo freezing and how this technology has advanced in the last several decades. Dr. DeVore, who is board-certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a member of the renowned NYU Fertility Center Team in NYC.
